Sing to Amie!

Amelie is the daughter of Jason & Shelley Strzalkowski, and sister to Anya. This website was created to support the family and bring some love their way during a very trying time. Amelie, or Amie, has been putting up a tremendous fight with cancer over the past 2+ years. And now, at the age of 4, the doctors have given the family some "profoundly not good" news. Amie's cancer has spread "...into her spinal column, and is now past the point of any possible therapies."

Years ago, I worked with Jason at the MASSP/MASC/MAHS Summer Leadership Camps. We stayed somewhat in touch after I changed careers, and our lives collided full-force in October 2012 - just after Amie was diagnosed. While she was receiving treatment at the University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children's Hospital, our third son had been born with a disabling birth defect and was transferred to Mott the day he was born for his care and first surgeries. Since then, over the past two years we have on occasion met up at Mott, both on journeys we didn't want to be on. We took comfort in a familiar face and our adorable children.

Now, reaching back over years of working with MASC/MAHS people, I know there are so many good hearts out there and I want to help bring as much love and smiles to the faces of this family, if only for a few moments, through the ever-loved and spirited camp songs. When I shared Jason's most recent blog post on Facebook, I had closed my statement with, "We love you Amie, deep down in our hearts..." And we do. And even if you don't know her or Jason or anyone in the family, we know you can still share a message of love and hope with the family.

Let's Sing for Amie!

In light of the recent blog post by the Strzalkowski family, and a few exchanges I had with Jason, I want to try and pull together as many videos as possible of people singing to Amie. Preferably, from the original commentary with Jason, MASC/MAHS campers (and friends!) would sing "We love you Amie, deep down in our hearts!" - but ANY camp song or upbeat song will do...

If you've been following the family's blog, you'll also know Amie's been collecting people's favorite colors and charting them with big sister, Anya, and Mom - Shelley. Let's help Amie with her color-charting by including YOUR favorite color in the video ("By the way Amie, my favorite color is..." at the end of the video), and/or dress up in your favorite color(s).
